ZandaBot Chronicles Excerpt

Trillium Wars Spartas Gate

by Max Magee

“Hi, Joan, guys!” says Ji-Min, as Jae leads Steve and his team into Ji-Min’s office.

“Joan! I haven’t seen you since your six-month trip to the Isle of Colossus?” he adds, looking at her while shaking hands with Zieg and the guys.

“That six-month visit lasted just over four months, and I’ve been to the island again since then!” replies Joan, greeting Ji-Min.

“Yeah!” says Steve. “Our most recent visit to the island was to check out the Bedouin Sky Palace, which turned out to be the Bedouin Sky Burial Chamber of Oletta, a Cyborg!” he adds, smiling at his old friend.

“Ji-Min! Try to keep up with current events. Please!” says Max, tutting while shaking Ji-Min’s hand.

“Ha! The ever-witty Maxie Boy,” replies Ji-Min, giving Max’s hand an extra hard squeeze.

“Aarrhh!” shouts Max, quickly pulling his hand from Ji-Min’s grip as everyone bursts out laughing.

Ji-Min joins the laughter as he puts his arm around Max’s shoulder.

“I’ve missed you guys,” smiles Ji-Min, looking around the whole team before gesturing to the four ZandaBots to join them.

“Well! You’ll see more of us over the coming weeks!” says Steve.

“I know! Silence said you were coming over to work with us,” replies Ji-Min, nodding towards Steve. “That’s why Albertina, Nuno, Nazz and Nero are here,” he adds, gesturing towards the four Bots.

Steve and his team finish greeting Ji-Min, Jae and the ZandaBots before everyone sits around Ji-Min’s oval office table.

“So! How can we help?” asks Steve, looking at his friend as everyone gets comfortable.

“Well! The gangster community here in Seoul has been lively for a while now. It seems Master Tae is having a lot of success smuggling textiles, electrical and physical goods, and heaven knows what else into and out of our city,” says Ji-Min seriously.

“Jeez! Sounds like he’s been a busy man,” mutters Steve.

“Yeah!” sighs Ji-Min. “We’ve had lots of success over recent years breaking down his businesses and connections with other gangs. But, over the last twelve months, Tae and Lauretta have been rebuilding successful enterprises again, forming ties with our two largest gangs!” continues Ji-Min.

“Do you know how Tae and his partners smuggle their merchandise into or out of the city?” asks Steve.

“No!” replies Ji-Min bluntly. “That’s what is baffling us. We’ve seen various goods flooding our markets here and in other cities, but we don't know how Tae and Lauretta are smuggling them?” adds Ji-Min.

“Looks like we need a plan!” says Albertina.

“Agreed!” adds Nazz.

“We need to do some hacking to listen to the chatter over Tae’s communication channels again,“ says Nuno.

“Looks like I’m going to be busy,” says Max, pushing his fingers against each other on both hands.

“Hacking Tae’s systems will be complicated this time around. Ji-Yoon and her boyfriend, Ben, are now running the technical and security side of Tae’s communications!” says Ji-Min. “And I think Ben, the Medulla, must be a wonder boy at programming because we’ve had many failures trying to hack into their systems,” he adds.

“We should be able to help you with that!” says Nero, looking around his three ZandaBot partners.

“Absolutely!” agrees Albertina nodding. “This could be the perfect test for our new Storm Force program,” she adds, looking toward Steve.

“STEVE!” says Ji-Min. “Let’s hear it?” he continues.

“Well!” says Steve rather shyly.
