Excerpt from Book 04
Zig Zaleia and the Xception Crusaders

Created by Maximo

“Well, guys! Did you all enjoy your evening last night?” asks Bolin, looking around his large office table the following morning.

“Wait! Max, you don’t have to answer?” continues Bolin, as Zig, Steve, and the guys chuckle as Max rubs his head.

“I wasn’t drunk. But I did have a few of those drinks you organised, Bolin. And boy, they were strong!” replies Max, slightly sluggish.

“Ha!” laughs Biyu, “Those drinks are meant to be sipped slowly, Max. You are not supposed to drink them like you do your English pints of larger!” she adds, as Nari and Dal continue laughing loudly at Max.

“Now you tell me, Biyu,” mutters Max, rubbing his head again before helping himself to more water from the large glass jug in the centre of the table.

“Biyu told you numerous times last night, Max. But you were too busy enjoying yourself for it to register,” says Zig, smiling at her boyfriend.

“Aaarrr! Max, you were funny,” adds Gamora. “And last night you also showed us your dance moves late into the evening,” he adds as Nari and Dal poke fun at Max.

“Anyway! Thank you, Bolin. Biyu. For a wonderful evening out in this bustling city of yours. I enjoyed the food, the good company and the local people we met. Great evening. Thank you,” says Max, after sipping more water.

“Here! Here! Well said, Max. I echo your sentiment for each of us. Thank you, Bolin, and Biyu, for arranging a wonderful evening,” adds Steve, putting up two thumbs toward his two friends.

“Thank You! Max, Steve, Ji-Min, guys. You are most welcome,” says Biyu, who enjoyed her night out with all the guys.

“Oh! Maxie Boy. Why do I love you?” says Zig, smiling as she takes hold of Max’s hand lying flat on the table.

“Because he’s the one and only, original, Maxie Boy!” chuckles Nari.

“Right! My friends. Let’s get down to business,” says Bolin, smiling at Max.

“We have a lot to cover before our evening out together again tonight!” he adds without saying another word.

“No! No! No!” says Max, quickly waving a hand at Bolin.

“Not again! Let’s have a quiet evening instead,” he adds, making Bolin and everyone burst into fits of laughter at his current state of discomfort.

“I don’t think Max will be repeating that performance for a while!” smiles Zig, still holding his hand.

“Here! Drink this?” says Biyu, sliding a small dark plastic bottle toward Max. “It’ll help you recover!” she adds as everyone settles down for their meeting.

“Right!” says Bolin. “We have a special surprise for all of you today. Let’s head downstairs!” he adds, getting to his feet.

Everyone walks into Bolin’s lab, where Kai-Ming and her colleagues are working on the left-hand side of the room.

“Are we ready?” asks Bolin after introducing everyone to his staff.

“Yes!” answers Miss Yeong. “It was a late night last night. But we have everything in place now!”

“Several Silence engineers will be joining us online in five minutes,” adds Mr Bo. “And two Silence Higher’s will be joining us a little later, too,”

“Superb!” says Bolin, looking toward Mr Gamora.

“Kai-Ming, shall we?” asks Gamora as he gestures to his right.

Kia-Ming and Gamora lead the group toward the centre of the room, slightly ahead of two large screens, one on either side, facing the black-light wall.

The two screens come to life, showing three Silence engineers, accompanied by several Zandabot engineers on their left.

After several minutes of introductions and chat, Mr Gamora and Kai-Ming stand behind a white computer monitor and take charge of the proceedings.

“Good morning, everyone!” says Gamora before everyone returns his greeting.

Miss Kia-Ming and I will show you several videos on our black light wall. The runtime for all the videos will be twenty minutes. After those videos have finished, I’d like you to discuss anything you see and any interesting observations you make with our group,” continues Gamora.

“But Please! Only ask your questions after the videos have finished!” adds Kia-Ming.

“It would be advantageous for you to take notes, either written or recorded via your personal devices and save them until we ask you for your input,” she continues.

“Thank you for your co-operation!” adds Gamora.

Biyu guides Bolin, Steve, Zig and the guys to some chairs set out to the right of Gamora and Kia-Ming’s workbench.

The room falls silent as everyone settles down to watch the show, and Gamora and Kia-Ming sit on their stools before Gamora turns off the room lights and starts the show.

Not one person utters a word as they watch the videos for twenty minutes.

“Right, everyone!” says Gamora, walking to the centre of the light wall and the large screens, where he can see everyone clearly despite the dark room.

“Please feel free to ask questions and tell me your observations,” adds Gamora.

Max’s hand shoots straight into the air.

“All the videos were in black and white. There were no apparent colours!” blurts out Max, without Gamora prompting him.

“Ha! Correct, Max,” smiles Gamora.

“There are many different colour gamuts available to us, but we decided to shoot these videos in black, white and grey,” he continues.

“I won’t go into great detail, but these days most monitors can produce around seventeen million colours, some monitors even more, which include black, white and varying colours in terms of hue, saturation, and brightness!” he adds.

“Anyone else?” asks Gamora before various people shout out.

“Some parts were slowed down!”…
