Isle of Colossus Mariners Curse

by Max Magee

“How did your call go?” asks Max as Zig returns to their shared office at Chuckle Technologies Ltd.

“Yeah! It was positive. Mrs Prue wants to chat via PippsApp this Friday afternoon at three o’clock,” replies Zig.

“Let’s ask Steve for a half-day holiday then,” says Max.

“Good idea. I’ll ask Judy if I can grab a quick five-minute chat with Steve,” says Zig before leaving their office.

“Hi Zig, Max. It’s great to see you guys again,” says Mrs Prue, connecting with the couple via PippsApp on her computer on Friday at 03:03 PM.

“It’s nice to chat with you again, too,” replies Zig as she and Max huddle in front of their home computer.

“How’s your book going, Zig?” asks Mrs Prue.

“Well! It’s changed from a single book into a series of short stories because Chuckle Technologies Ltd, here in the UK, now employs me, Max and our two friends to help launch a new tech project,” replies Zig.

“Wow! Chuckle Technologies is a massive company. Sounds exciting?” says Mrs Prue.

“Well! As I promised when we spoke. I’ve done more research concerning the professor researching odd or little-known indigenous tribes worldwide,” continues Mrs Prue.

“His name is Professor Stanley Bird, and he’s in his seventies now. He lives on our West Coast with his elderly wife,”

“He’s written articles about the Isle of Colossus for local and national newspapers and magazines. Plus, he’s said to be the number one expert in this part of the world concerning the Isle of Colossus!”

“Wwwooo!” says Max as he and Zig stay transfixed on Mrs Prue’s every word.

“Next week, I’m phoning a Maritime Forum and a University to see if I can locate Stanley Bird’s home address and contact details. I’d love to talk to him about the Isle of Colossus to find out what he does or doesn’t know about the island!”

“Wow, yeah!” says Zig. “I’d love to hear what he has to say, too. That would be so cool,”

“Well, when I get some concert information about our Mr Bird, I’ll let you know, and we’ll see what we can arrange!” says Mrs Prue.

“That would be perfect. Thank you,” says Zig.

On Saturday, Zig and Max frantically try to contact Steve of Chuckle Technologies and Nari and Dal in South Korea so they can explain what’s happening with Mrs Prue.

“Hi, Mrs Prue. I’ve just seen your message asking me to call you,” says Zig via mobile late Thursday afternoon.

“Yes! I’m so glad you did,” replies Mrs Prue.

“I’ve found a newspaper reporter who had dealings with Professor Bird years ago. He even met him once,” she continues eagerly.

“Anyway, this reporter offered to help me, and after a few back-and-forth phone conversations with him. I received Professor Bird’s contact details. So, I spoke to the professor himself this morning,”

“WOW! Fantastic!” says Zig, bubbling with excitement.

“It was a fascinating conversation,” says Mrs Prue. “And guess what?”

“Go on!” replies Zig, pushing her phone against her ear.

“He’s agreed for both of us to visit him and his good lady for a personal interview. How about that?” asks Mrs Prue, full of joy.

“We’ll make arrangements next week,” she adds before both ladies chat fast and furiously for a while longer.

Zig phones Steve straight after her conversation with Mrs Prue to explain what’s being arranged.

“Come in, guys!” says Steve Monday morning while opening his office door at Chuckle Technologies.
